Soros Supplementary Grants Program 2005-2006

ISE Center (Information. Scholarship. Education.) and the Network Scholarship Programs of the Open Society Institute-Budapest is pleased to announce the Soros Supplementary Grants Program, academic year 2005-2006.

The program was created to assist citizens of the selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia who are pursuing full-time advanced study within this region but outside of their home countries. The goal is to support cross-cultural, intraregional student mobility as part of the Open Society Institute's overall efforts to strengthen the academic network within and among these countries.

The Soros Supplementary Grants Program 2005-2006 offers grants to:

I. standard eligibility students of the social sciences, humanities, and fine and performing arts who have already arranged for part of the costs of their study to be covered.

II. special needs students:

  • Roma
  • refugees
  • people seeking political asylum
  • displaced (forced migrants).

Awards are offered for one academic year only and will be granted in up to $5,000. Awards are available to undergraduates and post-graduates enrolled at recognized institutes of higher education outside of their home country or permanent residence and in one of the countries listed below. Participating countries are as follows (no exceptions):

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina
  • Belarus
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Georgia
  • Kazakstan
  • Kosovo
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Macedonia
  • Moldova
  • Mongolia
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Serbia and Montenegro
  • Tajikistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan

IMPORTANT CHANGE! Starting from the academic year 2005-2006, the following countries, which recently became members of the European Union (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia), are NOT eligible for the program, neither as home nor as host countries.

EXCEPTION: students who have received Soros Supplementary grants between 2000-2004 and are citizens of and/ or still pursuing their degree studies in the above mentioned new EU countries, may re-apply until completion of their current degree. The applications of such students will be considered within the general open competition and funding is not guaranteed.
